House Interior Design | The Pierre | San Juan Islands | Washington | Olson Kundig Architects

Throughout the house, the rock extrudes into the space, contrasting with the luxurious textures of the furnishings. Interior and exterior fireplace hearths are carved out of existing stone; leveled on top, they are otherwise left raw. The master bathroom’s sink is composed of water cascading through three polished pools in the existing stone. Off the main space, a powder room is fully carved out of the rock. A skytube is through to the top of the rock and topped by glass. A mirror set within the tube serves as a focal point, reflecting natural light into the space and connecting to a forged bronze sink......more

Office Interior Design | IDEO | Chicago | Perkins + Will

This internationally-renowned design firm relocated from their suburban Evanston offices to the West Loop of Chicago. We designed a space well-suited to the collaborative, unscripted, non-linear work style and culture of IDEO. Within this raw, flexible loft space, we built project rooms with operable walls allowing individual teams to modify the space for their specific project needs. A client-facing conferencing floor, ideal for confidential meetings, is on a separate floor. Also incorporated into the space is a rooftop addition and a fully accessible, structurally independent roofdeck that is perfect for outdoor project work and entertaining. IDEO also required wood, metal, electrical and paint shops for mock-ups and models necessary for their project work. In addition to meeting the design challenges of a moveable wall solution and a rooftop addition, this project is on track for LEED CI 2.0 Silver certification.....more

Convention Centre Interior Design | Hanwha 63 Convention Center | Hanwha Hotels and Resorts | Seoul | South Korea | Perkins + Will

A contemporary nature theme updates the convention floors and visually unifies all spaces. Textured stone, wood veneer, abstracted forest patterns and flowers are some of the elements of the materials palette. Spanning two stories in the atrium, pivoting laser-cut metal panels inspired by water drops create a screen to the central escalators from the venues and filter sunlight. An entry canopy made of the same laser cut panel extends from the street into the vestibule, drawing visitors into the building with an ultramodern experience.

Visitors are indulged in luxury with private dining rooms, VIP spaces and restrooms that feature water, sky and star themes and high-quality fixtures. Flexible organizational components separate pre-function spaces to provide privacy for events......more

Museum Interior Design | Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience | Seattle | Olson Kundig Architects

The Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience, in Seattle’s Chinatown International District, provides space for community meetings and events, public space for the neighborhood, theater space for performances and presentations, exhibit spaces for community art and emerging Asian Pacific American artists, family-centered learning environments and leadership development for neighborhood youth. The design grew out of the original, 1910 multi-story building that served as a social center and living quarters for Chinese, Japanese and Filipino immigrants. Drawing inspiration from the building’s rich history, we saved as much of the original building as possible. In addition to building materials – such as timbers cut out between floors – the character and scale of the building were maintained. On the upper floors, original narrow doorways and corridors and small rooms preserve the intimacy of the original space, and are a venue for the museum’s immersion exhibits.....more

Lobby Interior Design | One Jackson Square | Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates

In addition to the lobby, Kohn Pedersen Fox designed the elevator cabs, public corridors, lounge, media space, gym and treatment room, as well as the kitchens and bathrooms in all of the building’s 30 apartments. Natural forms and a neutral, earth-toned color palette were used to guide the selection of materials and furniture throughout. The interiors are an elegant, understated backdrop for the natural beauty of Jackson Square Park and the individual tastes of residents.
The lighting within the mirrored walls of the elevator cabs replicates the pattern of the lobby ceiling and floor. The materials of the cabs, including the refined wood ceilings, merge the lobby aesthetic with that of the apartments above. Upstairs, the floorplan positions apartments along a single-loaded corridor, allowing natural daylight to come through a series of punctured windows............more

Retail Interior Design | The Wonder Room | Selfridges | London | Klein Dytham

Selfridges is fast approaching its 100th year in business. When Henry Gordon Selfridge founded the first store on Oxford Street, his vision was to bring wonders from across the globe to amaze and excite his customers. Back then, Selfridges department store was a place where you could find things that could be seen nowhere else. For example, the first public demonstration of television was held on the first floor of Selfridges!

The Wonder Room project was a chance to reintroduce those elements of surprise and wonder to the Selfridges and create a department store for the 21st century. Inspired by the concept of Wunderkammer and Curiosity Cabinets, the Wonder Room is a luxury gifts emporium with the energy of a souk.

The Wonder Room occupies 1,800 sqm of London finest retail space on the ground floor of Selfridges’ Oxford Street store. The key element of KDa’s design is an elegant wall of fins running around the perimeter of the room, and between these fins float crisp display cases. The idea that brands would have a uniform facade that they would all adhere to seemed a clever idea. Each brand would have beautiful open views into their concession stores, but when seen obliquely, the fins become a screen behind which the brands disappear and the focus turns to the central area of the room.......more

Restaurant Interior Design | Monsoon Restaurant | Park Hotel Bangalore | India | Project Orange Architects and Designers

Located in the Park Hotel Bangalore, one of India's first boutique hotels, the inspiration for Monsoon Restaurant is based in the setting of the surrounding area.
We always try to create a sense of place by making connections to the locale, and through our research we were captivated to discover that Karnataka is home to some 318 species of Butterflies. Some travel as much as 3000 miles in their short lives – so they represent another kind of traveller. We wanted to embed this motif into the walls of the space so designed a series of panels with intricate inlay work depicting groups of dancing Butterflies. While completing the projects looking out over the pool we were amazed to see a kaleidoscope of butterflies dancing over the water – maybe they had come to take a look?.......more

Cafe Interior Design | Kalavrita Cafe | Greece | Point Supreme

Kalavrita is a picturesque mountain town surrounded by natural beauty. The project uses a deliberately limited palette of materials that collectively reflect the natural setting.
The existing series of diagonal columns supporting the residential floor above are emphasized and connected to create a continuous line, framing the dramatic views. Custom-made terracotta tiles, echoing the roof tiles of the area, cover the floor and bar and extend to the exterior. The ceiling has been sloped mimicking the slope of the roof above. This combined with the diagonal columns creates an unusual unrest in the space. The contextual colour palette creates a merging of inside and outside and a constant reminder of the natural setting......more

Showroom Interior Design | East End Sawmills | Glasgow | Scotland | NORD

A single storey extension to a sawmill in the east end of Glasgow.
Following a fire, which destroyed the public face of the building, NORD were approached to design a replacement showroom and office.
The single storey timber structure is constructed entirely from material sourced within the adjacent warehouse. The single use of timber as a material not only simplifies the form but also creates an ambiguity between structure and skin, heightening the intensity of the material and product......more
